REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Couples must bring the precise documents required to obtain the license.  The license office will not issue a license without the exact documents they require (visit here for exact requirements).

For Louisiana residents: The license may be picked up in the local parish office where you live.

For out of state residents: The license must be picked up in the parish office in Louisiana.  In New Orleans this is Orleans Parish (addresses above).

24 HOUR WAIVER

Louisiana requires you to pick up the license 24 hours before the wedding day. If you do not reside in the state of Louisiana and are unable to do so, we will provide the 24 hour waiver. It is returned when the signed license is sent to Vital Records. You do not need to go to a judge to get the waiver.

ORDER YOUR OFFICIAL COPY

When you pick up the license in Louisiana, you can order an official copy to be sent to you for $5.00. Otherwise you won't receive a copy although your marriage will be filed with the state. You can also return your signed license, in person, and receive your certified copy in the same day.

RECEIVING THE OFFICIAL COPY

The official license will be sent to you by mail, if you ordered one. This can take about 4 to 6 weeks. If you have not received it after 8 weeks, call the Parish license office where it was files. We are not informed by the state and will not be able to tell you the status. You'll have to check with the license office.

LICENSE TIME-FRAME

A license is valid for 30 days after you pick it up.

WITNESS SIGNATURES

You will need two witnesses to sign the license at the ceremony or license signing. Witnesses must be 18 or older. Sometimes, we can provide witnesses for  paperwork only signings and small elopement ceremonies (couple only or couple + 1 guest.) Additional cost may apply

FOREIGN IDENTIFICATION

Foreign identification is strictly enforced. Please visit the Louisiana parish website where you will be picking up your marriage license for detailed instructions.
